When you start your own freelancing business, you need to learn about setting goals. Now what’s so important about that? Well, it’s probably the most important thing you can do. Proper goal setting impacts everything in your freelancing business from day to day activities to the long term success of the business.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that your goals can be achieved. This goes for long and short term goals. With long term goals it’s a little tough because we all have high hopes for our business. However, with short term or daily goals, while can be tough at first, are easy to set once you get used to them.

Businesses are built on what you successfully complete each and every day. So setting realistic short term goals is the way to go. You want to make this a daily habit. For example, I usually set my goals first thing in the morning. All I use is some paper and a pen and look at what I need to get done. Then put it all in a list.

There are many benefits to doing it this way. The major benefit for me is that it clears my mind and helps me focus on what I need to complete. After all, what do you want to concentrate on today? Making a million dollar business? Or…. getting that first freelancing job on the road to making that million?

As you can see setting the right goals is very important if you want to be successful at starting your own business. The short term goals are most important because every completed goal is a building block to a very successful business.
